Every day, Cal Poly Engineers are putting the power of doing to work on every continent. That’s because Cal Poly College of Engineering prepares today’s students to solve tomorrow’s global challenges. You can support this work by making a gift today to the Dean’s Innovation Fund!
Learn by Doing is, of course, Cal Poly’s signature approach to education. In our college, we take Learn by Doing a step further, not only pairing students with hands-on work but work that addresses current, real-world challenges. Faculty members facilitate this, working with outside individuals and industry to solicit challenges students can address while attracting major research grants, leading to significant breakthroughs in applied research and engineering education.
Our students are so eager to use their skills for societal good they often join clubs outside of the classroom that aim to improve lives. One such club is EMPOWER, where students work out of the TECHE (Transforming Engineers Through Community Hands-On Engagement) Lab. For example, they are creating a travel-sized patient lift for aerospace engineering student Alex Fung. Following a hiking accident that left him paralyzed, the lift will transfer him from his wheelchair to a standard hotel bed. If you want to support projects like these, please consider making a gift to the Dean’s Innovation Fund. This fund supports critical research projects, leadership development and education experiences for students.
Of course, we have many other facilities and tools that help our students constantly push for greater innovation. And we strive to keep that technology current and relevant. By giving to these endeavors, you too can have an impact, helping those with immediate needs through our students while also helping prepare our students for careers that will foster even more positive change.
